Q&A 93

Q.  But being an analogy your comparison MUST break down somewhere; there has to be a place where the physical creation and its laws is NOT similar to the spiritual creation and its laws.

A. Yes... You're very right.

Q. And...?

A. And what?

Q. Where are they dissimilar?

A. As far as I know, it's in the time-lag between infringement and the naturally ensuing pain/suffering: matter punishes immediately; spirit not necessarily, but just as surely. If you break the law of gravity, you fall immediately and the pain sets in pretty quickly. If you fornicate, spiritual pain doesn't necessarily set in immediately.

Q. All pretty nifty, but why do you keep assuming that we have a spiritual part to us?

A. Because only spiritual agents can cause spiritual effects.

Q. I think all our actions are caused by our highly evolved matter.

A. That's just it! The fact that you can question my assertions or dispute them or even think or want to know the truth about this topic or wonder at the beauty of your girlfriend or lie or disobey etc. is all evidence of a spiritual faculty in man. Chemicals, plants and animals that share all the matter we have don't question, dispute, wonder, lie, etc. That is why we insist on free primary education for children but not for cows; or we try criminal trespassers in court but not cockroaches in our kitchen; why we award and esteem heroes but not cats that killed a rat, etc.

The ancients would summarise my many words into one universal law of logic: an effect cannot be greater than its cause. Thus if the effect is material, then any matter or thing greater than matter can cause it. If however the effect is spiritual, then only something spiritual can cause it.

Q. I see...

A. And that’s my response on the second part of your comment.

Q. Does this mean we can now move to the first part?

A. Yup.
