Commentary on frustration cont’d
5. One question that should pop up in our minds after thinking about Part 64 is: why? Why is the devil so bothered with us? What have we done to him? Or if he’s already in hell, if he’s already lost, why does he bother? This is the way I like to attempt explaining it:
a. First, you may recall from Part 14 and from Annex 23 that God doesn’t force happiness on anyone. Rather, as Peterson was saying in Annex 47, we have to almost wrestle it from Him – show him how much we want it.
b. This is true not only of humans, but of angels as well. They too had to, through a free and deliberate act, choose God over themselves. (Unfortunately, we don’t have details of what kind of test they were given. Many theologians have made different guesses through the years, but the Church has always concluded we don’t really know.)
c. What we do know is that Satan and the fallen angels chose themselves over God. And thus the great rebellion begun. Hell (eternal separation from God) is the natural and necessary consequence of choosing self over God, of not wanting to be in a relationship with God. And hell is where Satan and the fallen demon ended up.
d. Ever since, these fallen angels have been on a tantrum similar to a teen who has been dumped or had a bad break up with their significant other. That teen goes home and destroys everything they have that may remind them of their former love: selfies, bracelets, wallpapers, songs, etc. The devil and his angels, having had a bad break up with their Creator, they go off home (hell) and similarly begin destroying anything and everything that reminds them of their former love.
e. And what are the realities that remind them of God? What realities does the devil try to destroy? Humans, the family, sex, women, the Church, nature and truth. (See Annex 65a).
f. So the devil is not interested in your downfall and eternal damnation because it makes him feel better or suffer a little less. He quite frankly could not care less about you. And if you need proof, see what state he leaves possessed people in. You and I are effectively collateral damage: civilian casualties in this forlorn war the devil wages against God. He’s mantra is “I’m not going down alone!” (See also Annex 65b below.)
