Intro

Remember the note you created yesterday where you listed a few qualities of what it means to you to be a man? One way to divide or group those qualities is into three: qualities of the body, qualities of the mind (or intellect), and qualities of the soul.

Short Exercise 2:

  1. Review the list you made in Part 1. Are there any more qualities you'd like to add? If so, add them now. If not, move next.
  2. Are there more examples of real men who embody these particular qualities (even if other areas of their lives are far from exemplary)? If yes, add them to the list.
  3. Divide the qualities you've listed into those that appertain to the body, those of the mind and those of the soul.
  4. Look at your groupings from no. 3 above.  From the qualities you listed as constituting a man in your eyes, does it seem like your definition of what it means to be a man pays insufficient attention to the body, to the mind or to the soul?

Commentary:

The body, the mind and the soul are the three battlefields of every man.  Victory in one battlefield, makes victory in the other fields somewhat easier.  Defeat in one battlefield makes defeat in the other fields much more likely.  The aim to is to develop each as best as we can, and to maintain a healthy balance between the three (such that they support each other like the sides of a triangle).
